Election Update 6.0: Antioch Mayors Race Separated by 58-Votes

by ECT

On Friday December 2, the Contra Costa County Elections Office released its 6th update to the November 8 election.

According to sources within the elections office, the only race that cannot be “officially” called at this time is the Antioch Mayors race where Sean Wright has a 58-vote lead over Wade Harper.

The elections office is slated to have another release sometime Saturday afternoon.

On Friday, Antioch Mayor Wade Harper stated that he called Wright shortly after the results to congratulate him on the win and conceded the race. Harper said he wishes Wright the best and will not challenge the results.

“This is a community service position. I am serving the community and I will not be challenging the results. I had the honor of serving the community 8-years between the Mayors seat, the City Council and school board,” said Harper. “I wish Sean Wright the best and will assist him in any way possible to help him be successful during this transition.”

Sean Wright was not ready to claim victory yet on Friday calling the process stressful.

“Tonight has been a stressful night watching the results, I am excited to serve Antioch should the vote hold up in my favor,” said Wright. “This really proves when you go to the ballot that every vote counts and I am excited for the final tally to be completed and begin serving the people of Antioch.”

Although confident, Wright says he will make a more formal statement once the results are more finalized as they are still very much fluid.
