Edna Hill Middle School: “Once Upon A Time” Event Looking for Formal Apparel Donations

by ECT

Edna Hill School PASS Program has created a new program, called “Once Upon a Time”, to pass on gently used formal apparel to students who may need them.

During this time of the year, students have 8th grade dances, promotion, high school proms and graduation. However for some kids and families this can be a time of stress, as all these events take resources that some families don’t have.

This is where Once Upon A Time comes into play where boys and girls who have outgrown clothing and apparel can drop off their old items so others may use them at social events.

Traci Kemper, 6th Grade Teacher at Edna Hill, explained there is a real need in the community.

“The idea came about when I realized that many of our students were looking in the costume room and in our district clothing program for dresses. It occurred to me that there was a real need here and one that I believe we could fulfill,” explained Kemper.

She praised the community for wanting to help and donate so that as many students as possible could participate in the social events.

“The truth is I believe it is in our spirit to want to help others,” said Kemper. “This just gives people another platform to do so. Even if we can help one student we’ve made a difference. It will send the message that we care about them and will be a great reminder to our community that together we can change lives.”

According to Kemper, time is of the essence as Proms begin April 18 and 8th grade dances are in May.
