The East Bay Regional Park District Police reported Tuesday that one of two stolen puppies have been located. The stolen puppy was located in the city of Richmond.

The Park District Police announced the theft on July 8 between 8:00 am and 11:30 am where two herding dog puppies were stolen from their owner near the Dotson Family Marsh area of Pt. Pinole Regional Park. The two puppies are black and white Border Collies, about 5-8 weeks old. The puppies are working dogs the herder relies on for his livelihood.

Police said Tuesday that one of the stolen puppies has been found safe and is in the process of being returned to the owner.

The puppy was located after an alert citizen saw an unknown woman walking a border collie puppy near her business in Richmond. The reporting citizen asked the unknown woman about the puppy and the woman abandoned it prior to fleeing the area. Officers searched the area for the woman and the other puppy, but were unable to locate either.

Police are still investigating this case and are still actively searching for the second puppy and any potential suspects.

The East Bay Regional Park District Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance with reuniting the last puppy with its owner. Anybody with information pertaining to the investigation is asked to contact the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department at 510-881-1833 (non-emergency), or their Tip line at 510-690-6521.

The woman who saw the thief with the puppy should have taken a picture of her. The cops will find her. One usually doesn’t walk a dog far from where they live or work! Wow! A puppy wound up in Richmond? Who would have thought!
