East County Events: September 20 and Beyond

Lots of events in East Contra Costa County this weekend with the main attractions being the Coast Cleanup event hosted by the Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch  and the Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed holding cleanups in Brentwood, Discovery Bay and Oakley.

On Sunday, the day kicks off with the Delta Harvest Run in Brentwood while Brownstone Gardens in Oakley is hosting a free Open House Photo Day.

Sept. 20: E-Waste Recycle Day at Streets of Brentwood
If you have some electronics that are difficult to dispose because it costs you too much to do it, just bring it to The Streets’ Saturday morning at the parking lot East of Black Angus & ULTA, it will costs you $0, AND you’ll be doing it for a good cause!  The proceeds benefit the Liberty Union High School District Ed Foundation.


 

Brownstone Fitness

Brownstone Gardens Fit Club
Open to the public, this free event begins workouts on Saturdays from 8:00 to 9:00 am throughout the summer and into the fall. The series will be led by Mary and Brandon Collins, independent Beachbody Coaches. Participants need to bring a Yoga mat, towel, and water bottle.  Come have fun with us!! We will be doing a 30 minute P90X workout, so bring some form of resistance with you. Can be anything from a basketball to a LIGHT weight (3-10 lbs). Brownstone Gardens is located at 91 Brownstone Road in Oakley.

Sept. 20: The 31st Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day
The 31st Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day, the state’s largest volunteer event, will take place on Saturday, September 20th 2014. The event is expected to draw more than 70,000 volunteers who will combat marine debris at over 800 locations throughout the state by removing the trash that has accumulated on California’s beaches and inland shorelines over the past year. Get out there, join the effort in Antioch, CA.  There are three locations to choose from: Antioch Marina, Prewett Park & Fulton Shipyard. FOMCW Delta Clean Up
Sept. 20: 10th Annual Marsh Creek & Delta Cleanup

The Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed (FOMCW) are proud to announce that Marsh Creek & Delta Cleanup Day which will take place on Saturday, September 20. The event will be held between 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Participants may choose from locations in Brentwood, Discovery Bay or Oakley. Last year’s event had 400 volunteers during Coast Cleanup Day where they picked up 6.75 tons of trash and cleaned 20-miles of creek and delta waterways.

Sept. 20: Nature’s Canvas Exhibit Opens

The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch is proud to present the works of artists living in and around the Delta at the Lynn House Gallery.  With the many hills and valleys, along with East Bay Regional Park properties, artists have an abundance of opportunities to capture nature and all its wonders in many art forms. The Nature’s Canvas Exhibit has many works of art in oils, acrylic, mixed media and photography.

The Lynn House Gallery is located at 809 West 1st Street in downtown Antioch. The exhibit begins on Saturday, September 20th, with a free artist reception from 2-4 PM and continues through October 4th on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1-4 PM. The artist reception and exhibit are free to the public. |

Sept. 20: Soroptimist International of Antioch to Host Bunco Tournament
From 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, the Sorptimist International of Antioch will be hosting a Bunco Tournament at the Delta Villa Estates Clubhouse located at 1900 Venice Lane (off E. 18th in Antioch). The event is $15 with snacks, prizes, raffles and a door prize drawing.

Delta Harvest Run

Sept. 21:  Delta Harvest Run
Please join us for this community event as we work to raise money for local East Contra Costa food banks and pantries. This benefit is organized by the Delta Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation. We have designed a route that is flat and fast and will appeal to athletes of all levels. Our route is USTF Course Certified.

All events to start on the 50 yard line/ home side of the Liberty High School Football Stadium just off Oak Street in Brentwood. Full address is: Liberty High School 850 2nd Street Brentwood, CA

Races Include:

  • 10 Mile – 7:00 AM
  • 10K – 7:20 AM
  • 5k – 7:40 AM
  • Family Fun Run – 9:00 AM

There will be cash awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall Female and Male winners in the 10 Mile, 10k and 5k events.  The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 9:00 AM at the Entertainment Stage near the Liberty High School Football Stadium track.

Delta Thunder 

October 4-5: Delta Thunder

Antioch, CA – The Antioch Rivertown Jamboree, in conjunction with the Delta Boat Racing Association is excited to showcase the Delta Thunder V-Gary Agopian Memorial Powerboat races, formally held in Isleton CA. The event is at the New Antioch Marina on the weekend of October 4th & 5th. Racing Action runs from 10am-4:00pm.

The race will be a Championship Race featuring the exciting 100 mph Cracker Box Power boats, Sport C boats, SST 45 and the fun to watch high horsepower outboard runabouts. It will also feature a boat show with folks showing their prized boats as well as numerous water related informational booths.

Admission to this event is free, although donations, sponsorship and advertising spots in the race program guide are needed and welcomed.

October 6: Hospice East Bay, Rossmoor Art & Wine 2014

Pleasant Hill, CA – Wine Tastings & Local Artist Exhibits at the Rossmoor Event Center: $30 general admission; $80 VIP admission. Price of general admission includes an event wine tasting glass, a stylish wine tote & hors d’oeuvres.

Los Medanos College Drama Dept: Man of the Flesh

Where: Los Medanos College Theatre – 2700 E. Leland Rd. Pittsburg, CA.

After recently co-directing Ripple Effect for The San Francisco Mime Troupe, Hugo E. Carbajal has joined the award winning Drama Department at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, and is directing Man of the Flesh. The play, written by Octavio Solis, “reimagines the DON Juan legend in terms of contemporary Chicano culture.”

Performances of Man of the Flesh will take place October 16, 17, 18, 20, 23, 24, 25, 27, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. There is a Wednesday matinee October 22 at 11 a.m. The theatre is located on the campus of Los Medanos College 2700 E. October 18: Brazen Racing to Manage Los Vaqueros Tarantula Run

There are some changes in store for the 2014 Los Vaqueros Tarantula Run, set for Saturday, Oct. 18. The eighth annual Tarantula Run will be managed by Brazen Racing, which has been producing popular trail events in the Bay Area since 2009.

The Contra Costa Water District is very pleased that Brazen has chosen to add the Los Vaqueros Tarantula Run to its 2014 event lineup, and is looking forward to seeing the run thrive in the future.   Brazen will to offer the same race distances as in the past — 5K, 10K and half-marathon — all out of the Kellogg Creek Picnic Area.

Brazen is in the process of redesigning the courses for the run. They will all be different than in the past. The half-marathon will be a true half-marathon distance. We will post links to maps as soon as the courses are complete.

  • Half Marathon: 8:00 am
  • 10K: 8:15 am
  • 5K: 8:30 am
  • Kids Spider Scramble: 7:35 am
