East County Events: October 3 and Beyond

This weekend in East Contra Costa County belongs to downtown Brentwood where they will be celebrating beer with two separate festival events. The first is a Downtown Brentwood Craft Beer Festival which sold out, however, another event will be held a few hours later on First Street. If beer is not your thing, be sure to check out Delta Thunder in Antioch where boat racing will occur.

Here is a list of events this weekend and beyond.

Oct. 4: Downtown Brentwood Craft Beer Festival (SOLD OUT)
The Downtown Brentwood Craft Beer Festival will be hosted at the community center on Saturday, October 4th, 2014 from 12pm to 4pm. Brentwood Octoberfest

October 4: OktoberFEST in Downtown Brentwood
Attend this free event between 2-6 pm, visit downtown Brentwood for OktoberFest  on First St. for German Beers, Wine, Bratwursts Prezels and fun! The event have a kids zone which includes:

  • JO JO the Clown
  • Little Miss Everything Face Painting

Delta Thunder 

October 4-5: Delta Thunder

Antioch, CAThe Antioch Rivertown Jamboree, in conjunction with the Delta Boat Racing Association is excited to showcase the Delta Thunder V-Gary Agopian Memorial Powerboat races, formally held in Isleton CA. The event is at the New Antioch Marina on the weekend of October 4th & 5th. Racing Action runs from 10am-4:00pm.

The race will be a Championship Race featuring the exciting 100 mph Cracker Box Power boats, Sport C boats, SST 45 and the fun to watch high horsepower outboard runabouts. It will also feature a boat show with folks showing their prized boats as well as numerous water related informational booths.

Admission to this event is free, although donations, sponsorship and advertising spots in the race program guide are needed and welcomed.

October 4: Antioch Neighborhood Cleanup
The 55th Neighborhood Cleanup event will occur on Saturday, October 4th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the neighborhoods surrounding Sycamore Drive. Volunteers should report to the Lowe’s parking lot on the Mahogany Way side.

The Antioch Police Department is excited to announce the 55th installment of the Neighborhood Cleanup Program. This is a collaborative community effort which involves active participation from The Antioch Police Department Crime Prevention Commission; Neighborhood Watch Program; Volunteers in Police Service; community volunteers and the Public Works Department.

October 4: Nature’s Canvas Exhibit Opens

The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch is proud to present the works of artists living in and around the Delta at the Lynn House Gallery.  With the many hills and valleys, along with East Bay Regional Park properties, artists have an abundance of opportunities to capture nature and all its wonders in many art forms. The Nature’s Canvas Exhibit has many works of art in oils, acrylic, mixed media and photography.

The Lynn House Gallery is located at 809 West 1st Street in downtown Antioch. The exhibit begins on Saturday, September 20th, with a free artist reception from 2-4 PM and continues through October 4th on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1-4 PM. The artist reception and exhibit are free to the public. |

October 5: Delta Discoveries

The Big Break Visitor Center will hosts Delta Discoveries between 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. This is a free drop-in event every Sunday through October 26 where visitors can discover the wonders of the Delta through hands on arts and craft activities. Each week they will explore different wetland wonders. The event . Located at 69 Big Break Road In Oakley.


 

October 5: International Food Festival at St Anthony Church

Join St. Anthony Church in Oakley (971 O’Hara Ave) between 9am to 5:00 pm for their International Food Festival. The event will include food, games, music and raffles.


 

October 6: Hospice East Bay, Rossmoor Art & Wine 2014
Pleasant Hill, CA – Wine Tastings & Local Artist Exhibits at the Rossmoor Event Center: $30 general admission; $80 VIP admission. Price of general admission includes an event wine tasting glass, a stylish wine tote & hors d’oeuvres.

VIP participants may arrive at noon for a private hour of food and wine pairings, specialty appetizers, and a presentation from a vintner’s ambassador. Additionally, as a VIP you can peruse the silent auction offerings in advance of the general opening time of 1:00 pm. Proceeds to benefit Hospice of the East Bay.

October 9: UMPQUA October/November Exhibit

The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch’s continues their partnership with Antioch’s Umpqua Bank and features six artists in their upcoming exhibit. The bank is a perfect venue for local artists to showcase their work, which changes every two months.

Featured artists are: Shirley DiMercurio, Carol Jurczak, Daniel Kennedy, Allen Kidwell, Lorraine Lawson, and Paul Schorr.

There is a free artist reception on Thursday, October 9th, from 5:30 – 6:30 PM. Please attend the reception to show your support for these outstanding artists. Umpqua Bank is located at 3700 Lone Tree Way and is open Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM, excluding bank holidays.

October 11: Lumpys Burger Eating Contest
Join Lumpys Diner for a car show and burger eating contest on October 11, 2014 at 581 Lone Tree Way in Antioch. First prize in the eating contest is $1,000, 2nd is $250 and 3rd is $100. Kids fest begins at 2:00 pm with a petty zoo, jumpy house and coloring contest. The car show begins at 4:00 pm and concludes at 9:00 pm.


 

October 11: Stone House Heritage Day
Please join us for this free event at the house site to celebrate the natural, historical and cultural wonders of the John Marsh House and Marsh Creek State Park in Brentwood. This is a free and family friendly event, no tickets are required, even parking is free. Bring your friends and family! Event will be held at the John Marsh House site on the corner of Marsh Creek Road and Vineyards Parkway. Please wear close toe shoes, it is a dirt lot and there will be no access inside the house because of construction.

 Los Medanos College Drama Dept: Man of the Flesh
by Octavio Solis, directed by Hugo Carbajal.

Where: Los Medanos College Theatre – 2700 E. Leland Rd. Pittsburg, CA.

After recently co-directing Ripple Effect for The San Francisco Mime Troupe, Hugo E. Carbajal has joined the award winning Drama Department at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, and is directing Man of the Flesh. The play, written by Octavio Solis, “reimagines the DON Juan legend in terms of contemporary Chicano culture.”

Performances of Man of the Flesh will take place October 16, 17, 18, 20, 23, 24, 25, 27, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. There is a Wednesday matinee October 22 at 11 a.m. The theatre is located on the campus of Los Medanos College 2700 E. Tarantula Run

 October 18: Brazen Racing to Manage Los Vaqueros Tarantula Run

There are some changes in store for the 2014 Los Vaqueros Tarantula Run, set for Saturday, Oct. 18. The eighth annual Tarantula Run will be managed by Brazen Racing, which has been producing popular trail events in the Bay Area since 2009.

The Contra Costa Water District is very pleased that Brazen has chosen to add the Los Vaqueros Tarantula Run to its 2014 event lineup, and is looking forward to seeing the run thrive in the future.   Brazen will to offer the same race distances as in the past — 5K, 10K and half-marathon — all out of the Kellogg Creek Picnic Area.

Brazen is in the process of redesigning the courses for the run. They will all be different than in the past. The half-marathon will be a true half-marathon distance. We will post links to maps as soon as the courses are complete.

Race Times:

  • Half Marathon: 8:00 am
  • 10K: 8:15 am
  • 5K: 8:30 am
  • Kids Spider Scramble: 7:35 am

October 18: Oakley Harvest Festival

The City of Oakley will host the Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Plaza. Admission and parking are FREE.

Wear your funniest, scariest or most creative Halloween costume to march in our parade. Don’t forget your canine friends who will have a costume parade of their own and receive a “doggie bag” for participation.

Back by popular demand – satisfy your sweet-tooth at the pie eating contest. Showcase your creativity – bring a pre-carved or decorated pumpkin to enter in our Pumpkin Contest. Prizes will be awarded for funniest, scariest and most creative entries.

As if that weren’t enough, there will also be a variety of vendors on hand, delicious food, make-n-take crafts for the kids, and a new “Magic Show” in the amphitheater.

October 25: The Howl-O-Weenie Mutt Strut
The 2nd Annual Howl-O-Weenie Mutt Strut is coming back to Antioch Animal Services [300 L Street, Antioch, CA] on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2014 from 10:00am to 1:00pm.

The Costume Parade will start at 10:30am! Prizes will be awarded for Most Unique Pet Costume. Best Family Costume, Look-a-Like Pet/Owner Costume, Best Green Costume, Cutest Dressed Costume and Scariest Costume!

  • All dogs MUST be on a leash to participate! Cats and other pets are welcomed as well.
  • Be sure to decorate a pumpkin at home and bring it to the Decorated Pumpkin Contest!
  • The first 50 participants at this year’s Mutt Strut will receive a goodie bag!

Our FINAL free community Open Garden Photo Shoot Day is October 26th 2014 from 10am – 4pm. Please mark this on your calendars because this will be the last one for 2014. Guests are allowed to come anytime between 10am – 4pm with their photographer or self photographers are welcome. Bring your own props. NO FOOD PROPS allowed.
