Here is a look at this weekends events in East Contra Costa County where Lumpy’s DIner will be hosting a Burger Eating Contest and Car Show beginning at 4:00 pm. If you want something to do earlier in the day, there is a free event at the John Marsh House to honor Stone House Heritage Day beginning at 11:00 am.

October 11: Lumpys Burger Eating Contest
Come to Lumpy’s Diner beginning at 4:00 pm and watch people battle it out for $1000! The rules are simple, 12 minutes to eat as many burgers as you can. Whoever wins gets $1000! Everyone else who participates gets a full stomach, a t-shirt, and a hat! Take your chance for only $40! And for the record… A girl holds the all-time record at 13 burgers! The car show starts around 2pm, burger eating contest begin at 6:pm (for the kids) and 7pm for the adults. Lumpy’s is located at 581 Lone Tree Way in Antioch.
October 11: Stone House Heritage Day
Please join us for this free event at the house site to celebrate the natural, historical and cultural wonders of the John Marsh House and Marsh Creek State Park in Brentwood.
This is a free and family friendly event, no tickets are required, even parking is free. Bring your friends and family! Event will be held at the John Marsh House site on the corner of Marsh Creek Road and Vineyards Parkway. Please wear close toe shoes, it is a dirt lot and there will be no access inside the house because of construction.

October 11-12: Discovery Bay Rocktoberfest
The Discovery Bay Lions Club will host the two day Rocktoberfest event October 11-12 at the Discovery Bay Community Center from 12-6pm. The event will include a concert featuring the Floorshakers on Saturday from 3:00-6:00 PM, a concert on Sunday from 2:00-4:30 with the band Sucker Punch, and a kidz zone that will have lots of carnival games including a giant slide, a 70 – foot inflatable obstacle course, a baseball carnival game, basketball game, and Chip Shot golf game. Proceeds from the kidz zone will go directly back to the three PTA’s that are participating. Odyssey of the Mind will also be providing a petting zoo for all ages to enjoy. There will be a Car Show and Cupcake wars on Sunday. There will be 40 vendors with lots of food and drink for all.
Brentwood Farmers Market
The farmers market will run on Saturdays between March 15 through November 22 between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm located at First Street between Oak and Chestnut.
UMPQUA October/November Exhibit

The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch’s continues their partnership with Antioch’s Umpqua Bank and features six artists in their upcoming exhibit. The bank is a perfect venue for local artists to showcase their work, which changes every two months.
Featured artists are: Shirley DiMercurio, Carol Jurczak, Daniel Kennedy, Allen Kidwell, Lorraine Lawson, and Paul Schorr.

October 18: Fishtales Fundraiser
The Delta Science Center will once again be hosting “FishTales ~ Stories of the California Delta” on Saturday, Oct. 18. The event feature a series of storytellers who explore the depth of the Delta’s history, be it triumphs and adventures of the region’s pioneers, ferry boat captains, levee builders, island dwellers or the stories that built the Delta we know today.
The fundraiser takes place at Big Break Regional Shoreline Park, which opened the Big Break Visitor Center in 2012, with the addition of a permanent display area featuring Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta exhibits, complete with a science room for student learning. The benefit will take place in the amphitheater in the Delta Discovery Area looking out on the Delta shoreline right at sunset.
“FishTales ~ Stories of the California Delta”, will benefit the Delta Science Center’s Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Educational Resource Guide Calendar and Teacher Education Guide. This fifth grade education program is donated free to 7,500 students and 152 teachers from Martinez to Discovery Bay and Rio Vista to Clarksburg.
Providing the weather holds out the Delta Science Center plans to light a campfire in the amphitheater fire pit to add to the storytelling obeisance.
The event, which takes place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., will feature storytelling, music, art, silent auction, Delta wines and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased in advanced. October 18: Brazen Racing to Manage Los Vaqueros Tarantula Run
There are some changes in store for the 2014 Los Vaqueros Tarantula Run, set for Saturday, Oct. 18. The eighth annual Tarantula Run will be managed by Brazen Racing, which has been producing popular trail events in the Bay Area since 2009.
The Contra Costa Water District is very pleased that Brazen has chosen to add the Los Vaqueros Tarantula Run to its 2014 event lineup, and is looking forward to seeing the run thrive in the future. Brazen will to offer the same race distances as in the past — 5K, 10K and half-marathon — all out of the Kellogg Creek Picnic Area.
Brazen is in the process of redesigning the courses for the run. They will all be different than in the past. The half-marathon will be a true half-marathon distance. We will post links to maps as soon as the courses are complete.

October 18: Oakley Harvest Festival
The City of Oakley will host the Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Plaza. Admission and parking are FREE.
Wear your funniest, scariest or most creative Halloween costume to march in our parade. Don’t forget your canine friends who will have a costume parade of their own and receive a “doggie bag” for participation.
Back by popular demand – satisfy your sweet-tooth at the pie eating contest. Showcase your creativity – bring a pre-carved or decorated pumpkin to enter in our Pumpkin Contest. Prizes will be awarded for funniest, scariest and most creative entries.
As if that weren’t enough, there will also be a variety of vendors on hand, delicious food, make-n-take crafts for the kids, and a new “Magic Show” in the amphitheater.

October 18 – Kids Free Fishing Derby

Los Medanos College Drama Dept: Man of the Flesh

After recently co-directing Ripple Effect for The San Francisco Mime Troupe, Hugo E. Carbajal has joined the award winning Drama Department at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, and is directing Man of the Flesh. The play, written by Octavio Solis, “re–imagines the DON Juan legend in terms of contemporary Chicano culture.”

October 25: The Howl-O-Weenie Mutt Strut
The 2nd Annual Howl-O-Weenie Mutt Strut is coming back to Antioch Animal Services [300 L Street, Antioch, CA] on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2014 from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
The Costume Parade will start at 10:30am! Prizes will be awarded for Most Unique Pet Costume. Best Family Costume, Look-a-Like Pet/Owner Costume, Best Green Costume, Cutest Dressed Costume and Scariest Costume!

Join Assemblyman Jim Frazier, the California Highway Patrol and the Brentwood Police Officers Association for a free Car Seat Safety Inspection Event at the Brentwood Senior Activity Center located at 193 Griffifth Lane, Brentwood from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Help protect your children and ensure they are properly restrained in your automobile by having
a certified NHTSA Child Passenger Safety Technician inspect your car seat and teach you about
the proper installation of these devices.
Free child fingerprinting and public safety tips will also be provided by the Brentwood Police

October 25: Science on Saturday – Computer Simulation, Exploring Nature With a Computer
This free event is being sponsored by the City of Brentwood and will be held on October 25 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Brentwood Community Center (35 Oak St.)
Computers are becoming an increasingly cheaper, more powerful tool that cannot be ignored by professionals. Computer simulation reproduces the behavior of natural and man-made systems to help us understand, predict, and communicate. This lecture will explore how LLNL scientists use computer simulation on the world’s fastest computers. We will also show you how you can get started doing your own computer simulations with free, open-source tools for class projects or just for fun! Students, teachers and parents are invited to attend Science on Saturday (SOS). SOS provides science talks with demonstrations highlighting cutting edge science at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).

October 28: CHP Smart Start Driving Safety Program
Tuesday 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Freedom High School

December. 4: Fundraiser for Antioch High School
The Seafood Banquet is in it’s 22nd year. It is put on by the 19th Hole in Antioch as a fundraiser for the Antioch High School Football program and Antioch High School Music Masters. It is on Thursday, December 4th at 6pm. There are still tickets available but space is limited. They are $65 each. If people are interested in purchasing they can stop in or call the 19th Hole. The students involved in Music Masters and the Football programs at Antioch High are selling raffle tickets for $2.00 apiece. The prizes include a
