East County: Christmas Tree Recycling Options

Here is a look at what you can do to get rid of you Christmas Trees this year and how to properly recycle it with your local garbage company.

City of Antioch
Republic Services has a drop off location where you can drop off your unflocked trees from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on January 3-4, 2016 at the Prewett Water Park. You may also leave a flocked tree to be picked up for a fee of $40 or as one of your two free, large-item pickups. For questions, contact (925) 685-4711

Antioch residents may also contact the Boy Scouts Treecycling where for a fee/donation. For more information, email the Boy Scouts at [email protected]

Brentwood LogoThe City of Brentwood recommends recyling of your Christmas tree in one of the following ways:

  1. Local organizations will be collecting Christmas trees for recycling. For more information, call (925) 634-7933;
  2. Unflocked trees may also be recycled by removing all decorations, cutting the tree into sections of three (3) feet or less, and placing the cuttings in the green waste cart for collection; or
  3. The City will pick up flocked or uncut trees for a fee. The fee ($20) for pick up will be based on the tree size and will be reflected on your utility bill.

Christmas & New Year’s Day Schedule: They will NOT pick-up on Christmas or New Year’s Day, however, they will pick up the very next day.

Free Christmas Tree Recycling (subject to change) There are 2 easy ways to recycle your Christmas tree. Please remove all tinsel, flocking, ornaments & tree stand.

  1. At the Curb:Please place your Christmas tree at the curb, on your yard waste day and we will pick it up for you at no additional charge. If your tree is 5 ft. or longer, please cut it in half. Our trucks cannot pick-up trees 5 ft. or larger.
  2. Take it to the Recycling Center & Transfer Station (RCTS) located at 1300 Loveridge Road in Pittsburg.
    RCTS is open daily from 7 am to 6 pm (closed Christmas Day & New Year’s Day only). Christmas trees will be taken at no charge- limit one tree per vehicle.
