The National Weather Services said the hottest temperatures are expected Monday and Tuesday. While temps are expected to decrease slightly on Wednesday, it will still be hot. Temps then increase again on Thursday. Therefore the Heat Warnings and Advisories have been extended until Thursday at 8 PM PDT.
EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PDT THURSDAY
- WHAT…Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 115 expected.
- WHERE…Interior portions of the San Francisco Bay Area including the North Bay, East Bay and Santa Clara valleys.
- WHEN…Until 8 PM PDT Thursday.
- IMPACTS…Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
- ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The hottest temperatures will occur across the region`s interior and in the higher terrain each afternoon with mild to warm overnight temperatures providing little relief from the heat.
For the sixth straight day, a statewide flex alert has been issued for Monday between 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm. The state also announced it was likely to see grid challenges for Monday and Tuesday.
Brentwood Closes Family Aquatic Complex Due to Excessive Heat
The City of Brentwood announced for the health and safety of our staff and patrons, the Brentwood Family Aquatic Complex will be closed Sunday, September 4 through Tuesday, September 6 due to the excessive heat forecasted on those days. The Brentwood Community Center, located at 35 Oak Street, will be open as a Cooling Center Saturday through Tuesday from 11:00am-6:00pm for those needing to escape the heat.

East Bay Regional Parks Closed Due to High Fire Danger
The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for inland East Bay areas and an Excessive Heat Watch for coastal and bayside areas on Thursday, September 1, 2022, through the Labor Day Weekend. Los Vaqueros Closure Due to Possible High Fire Risk
The Los Vaqueros Watershed will be closed on Sunday, September 4, and Monday, September 5, due to excessive heat and the potential for extreme fire danger. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the inland East Bay forecasting temperatures of 110 in Brentwood. Stay safe!

The Contra Costa County Library has 21 branches available as places to cool: Antioch, Prewett in Antioch, Bay Point, Brentwood, Clayton, Danville, El Sobrante, Hercules, Lafayette, Martinez, Moraga, Oakley, Orinda, Pinole, Pittsburg, Pleasant Hill, San Pablo, Dougherty Station in San Ramon, San Ramon, Walnut Creek and Ygnacio Valley in Walnut Creek.
*The Concord Library is currently closed for roof repairs. During the heat wave, the above libraries will be open regular hours on Thursday, 9/1, Friday, 9/2, Saturday, 9/3, and Tuesday, 9/6. (Masks required) - The City of Walnut Creek will offer a cooling center (all are welcome) if the temperature reaches 95 degrees.

Hours: Monday-Friday 9 am – 8 pm, Saturday, September 3, 7 am – 10:30 pm, and Sunday, September 4, 12 pm – 7 pm.
Individuals with animals are welcome at Tice Gym provided their animal can safely remain in a pet carrier or kennel. If you don’t have a kennel, multiple kennels for use will be available when you come.

The County Employment & Human Services Department (EHSD) offers the following places to cool on Tuesday, September 6, from 8 am to 5 pm. Water and light snacks will be available.

You can also go to locations in the Bay Area with cooler temperatures or other locations with air conditioning. If you plan to visit the beach, exercise caution as there may be riptides. Practice water safety, including wearing life vests when swimming or boating.
