East Contra Costa Schools Continue to Operate on “Rainy Day” Schedules

With a Winter Spare the Air Alert issued through Friday due to smoke from the California wildfires, schools in East Contra Costa will continue to operate on its “Rainy Day” schedules which limits outside activities.

Here is a quick update based on school information released on Thursday.

  • Antioch Unified School District – will operate on rainy day schedule and on Wednesday night, Superintendent Anello told her board they will only close the schools should the Air Quality Index reach the range of 201-300 (Very unhealthy)
  • Brentwood Union Elementary School District – will operate on a rainy day Schedule per Dana Eaton
  • Oakley Union Elementary School District – will operate on a rainy day schedule per Greg Hetrick.
  • Pittsburg Unified School District – will operate on a rainy day schedule per Janet Schulze.

Air quality is expected to get worse on Thursday with Concord anticipating a reading over 200.

It was announced Thursday that several colleges around the Bay Area are closed due to air quality which included San Francisco State University, San Jose State and Cal State East Bay. Community Colleges included Canada College, College of San Mateo and Skyline College will be closed through Saturday, with classes and campus operations resuming on Monday, November 19.
