East Contra Costa Nonprofit Roundtable Hosted by County Supervisor Burgis a Success

by ECT

Antioch, CA – On Monday, Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis convened an East County non-profit roundtable at Kaiser Permanente Sand Creek Conference Center in Antioch, CA.

Recognizing the many needs that nonprofits fill in every community, as well as the challenges of running a nonprofit, Supervisor Burgis reached out to local organizations and invited them to discuss their needs.

“Nonprofits fill the gap that Government and Business don’t” Burgis told the group.

This first meeting brought 40 local nonprofit organizations together to identify priorities in how to best help them reach their goals. Burgis asked the group several questions, assessing the various stages of their organizations’ development.

“We identified some common purposes, promoted networking among groups, and will offer many opportunities for collaboration.” She said.

The discussion was centered on areas of interest and priorities for this ongoing meeting series. Future meetings will focus in on issue areas Burgis found during a recent online survey.

“The Roundtable for nonprofits hosted by Supervisor Burgis and her staff was a wonderful way for many East County nonprofits to meet under one roof, at one time and gather ideas on the needs of of these organizations, and begin the process of information sharing that will benefit all” said Randall Smith from Veterans of Oakley “We are excited to get access to more resources.”

It is recognized regionally that nonprofits from other parts of the county receive more funding than in East County and Supervisor Burgis wants to help change that.

“I want to help our nonprofits access the funding that is out there by giving them access to training and learning opportunities locally.” says Burgis.

All local nonprofits (any cause) are encouraged to participate.  The nonprofit roundtable series is intended for groups based in or serving East Contra Costa County and will continue to meet on a quarterly basis. The next Nonprofit roundtable meeting will be held August 6, 2018.
