Just before 11:30 am Friday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was informed that a Strike Team was needed to head down to Ventura County to battle two fires which had burned a combined 21,000 acres.

According to CALFIRE, the Woolsey Fire had burned 14,000 acres while the Hill Fire has burned 6,100 acres. It is unclear which fire local firefighters will placed on.

“We have a single unit headed to Southern California because the situation is very critical and glad we can offer some help to our fellow citizens and we wish good luck as we hope this fire can become under control in a short amount of time,” said Battalion Chief Ross Macumber. “Both fires are threatening multiple communities in Ventura County and Los Angeles County.”

It is undetermined at this point how long the firefighters will be down south, but it could be 21-days.

East Contra Costa Fire joined Contra Costa County Fire units, San Ramon Fire, and Graton Fire at Station 20 around 2:30 pm before they began traveling down south this afternoon.
