March 16, 2022 – Brentwood CA, The East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD) announced it has received $1,500,000 in funding, which it plans to use to help in the construction of Station 51 in Brentwood.

The new station 51 is planned to be constructed on Empire Avenue between Grant Street and Amber Lane. This new station is slotted to be the 5th in the District’s response matrix serving east Contra Costa County. The funding is being made available through the recently signed federal appropriations bill and was championed by Congressman Jerry McNerney and Senator Alex Padilla.

“The addition of a fire station is critical in order to help ECCFPD serve the community and is a necessary project that will benefit the residents of Brentwood, as well as all those served by ECCFPD.” said Brian J. Oftedal, President of the ECCFPD Board. “I appreciate the efforts of Congressman McNerney and Senator Padilla to ensure that we have necessary facilities needed to provide adequate levels of fire and emergency medical services to the community.”

This funding will go towards the construction of a new fire station in the City of Brentwood that will help ensure adequate staffing and response times to calls for service. The new station has been identified as a key priority in order to provide fire and emergency medical services to the residents and businesses in this growing portion of Contra Costa County.

“I would like to thank Congressman McNerney, Senator Padilla, Supervisor Burgis, the cities of Brentwood and Oakley, the Town of Discovery Bay, and our local professional firefighters of IAFF Local 1230 for their help in securing this important funding,” said ECCFPD Fire Chief Brian Helmick. “A new fire station in this portion of the County, where there are often severe winds, drought, and other extreme fire conditions, will help ensure that residents and taxpayers have appropriate public safety infrastructure in place in order to keep them safe. We have continued to work in securing any and all funding mechanisms to protect our communities and your firefighters alike.”
