East Contra Costa Fire Chief Calling it Quits

by ECT

East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Fire Chief Hugh Henderson announced Monday that he will be retiring.

Henderson has 36-years in fire service and his retirement date is set for March 30, 2017. Henderson was officially hired as fire chief in August of 2010, even though he had been doing the job since 2008.

Here is a copy of his statement as prepared to the fire board:

After 36 years in the fire service, I am formally announcing my retirement from East Contra Costa Fire, effective March 30th.

I sincerely appreciate the relationships I have made with each of you over the past several years, so it is with some reluctance that I make this announcement. In February I will have proudly served as Chief of ECCFPD for a quarter of my fire service career.

It has been a privilege to serve the community that has raised me. Memories and relationships run deep. I am very proud of each and every one of our firefighters and personnel. It has been truly an honor to lead you.

Our Board President and Vice President have been diligently working with me for the past several months on preparing next steps. I am confident that our ECCFPD Board and I will steadily guide the District through this transition period.

It has been an incredible journey and I am looking forward to my next adventure.

Chief Hugh Henderson
