Unique Program Encourages Residents to Safely Dispose of Dangerous and Illegal Fireworks

Brentwood, Calif. — For the first time ever, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District is holding a fireworks take-back program.  The amnesty program allows anyone residing in the District to turn in fireworks without questions asked.

As Independence Day inches closer, the weather is heating up making illegal fireworks all the more dangerous in East Contra Costa.  All fireworks are illegal in East Contra Costa Fire Protection District to include so-called safe and sane ones.

“Fireworks are illegal and dangerous both for the people who use them and, in our current high-fire-risk conditions, for everyone around them,” said Brian Helmick, Fire Chief, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District. “This program gives our citizens an opportunity to safely dispose of fireworks before they can cause injury, wildfires or worse.”

The District will operate three drop-off locations between now and the Fourth of July. Dates, times and locations are:

  • June 29, 2019 from 9:00 – 12:00 @ Station 59 – 1685 Bixler Road, Discovery Bay
  • June 29, 20019 from 1:00 – 4:00 @ Station 53 – 530 O’Hara Ave, Oakley
  • June 30, 2019 from 9:00 – 12:00 @ Station 52 – 201 John Muir Park Way, Brentwood

Illegal fireworks are dangerous always, but even more so during current high fire risk conditions and this year, there will be no leniency for lighting them.  Please help us continue to make our communities safe and turn in those fireworks.

The City of Oakley will be hosting their annual City Hood Celebration on July 6, 2019 from 6:00 – 10:00 P.M. where there will be a commercial fireworks display, we encourage all residents to see this safe display and make this year a little safer for us all.

My dogs hope that you blow off a few fingers or even a hand. I hope you only set your own home on fire and that it looks spectacular as the ECFPD stands by and watches it burn.

everyone who is against fireworks is just a little poosy, shut your crying already it’s one day a year or maybe a few days. Everyone loves to be patriotic and everyone has different ways of showing it. Although I do think people are hiding behind the patriot curtain on this one but it’s whatever.

This has NOTHING to do with patriotism. It’s just stupid idiots (redundant, I know) wanting to make noise. Well, if they do it on my street, they will be in for a BIG SURPRISE! Boy! There will be ambulances galore picking them up! The guy next door, whose suffering from PTSD will think he’s still in Afghanistan. . . and pick-up-the-pace.
