Dublin Police Investigating New Years Day Shootout

by ECT

The Dublin Police Department is investigating a January 1 fatal shooting that occurred around 11:30 pm in the 3400 block of Monaghan Street during a home invasion robbery.

Upon arrival, Dublin Police units located a 28-year-old female and a 28-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel were requested to the scene, however, the female was deceased.

The male was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Dublin Police officers made contact with the resident of the home where the incident occurred and were told by the resident he was in bed when he woke up to banging on his front door. When he came to the door, he saw a female subject who he recognized as his ex-girlfriend. When he opened the door and was confronted by her and another male who was pointing a gun at him.

Police say the two subjects attempted to assault the resident and in self-defense the resident fired his own gun at the subjects as he fled out of the home and called police. The homeowner was not wounded during the exchange.

Police say this is an on-going investigation and are processing the scene for additional evidence.

No other information was released.

Due to grammatical errors this report is not very clear but it sounds like the dead female was the one who knocked on the door and not the resident, also the male with gunshot wounds was with the deceased female and not the resident. That being said it seems like the male resident may have been expecting trouble and was ready for action with his firearm, this would suggest that a call to police would have been the better option as opposed to opening the door. Stand your ground becomes a cloudy defense if the incident could have been avoided an other way.

The resident did the right thing! If anyone rings my doorbell or knocks on my door at 11:30Pm … and I don’t expect anyone… I too come down from my bedroom with a gun in my hands, just in case. There is no reason to bother the police until afterwards. You are responsible for protecting yourself. Most of the time the cops won’t even come out until AFTER the fact and it takes an average of 8 minutes for them to get to you and you might be dead by then.

This isn’t complicated, the resident was not hit by the exchange in gunfire. The two who were hit were the ones who were assaulting the resident. Good job to the homeowner. This is basically the same recap as other publications

No one said the resident was hit. He did dispense with the ex-girlfriend who was one of the two … with a gun … trying to cause the resident harm. Good job, resident! More people should stand their ground against these criminals.

If somebody’s pounding on my door at midnight best believe I’m gonna have my pistol in hand no matter who’s at the door. People need to stand there ground and criminals will think twice

OK, maybe even stand THEIR ground. There = location …… THEIR = possessive

Maybe not; police take forever or don’t even show.

Or maybe there aren’t any good guys in this story…. let the cops figure it out.

What do you mean by “maybe there aren’t any good guys in this story?” The resident should have let them pistol whip him — or worse? He did what anyone with half-a-brain would do. Dispensed with the girlfriend and should have also taken out her accomplice.

A shootout? Hardly. The resident’s gun was the only one reported to have fired.
