The Dublin Police Department stated Wednesday that at approximately 7:00 am, they responded to Fallon Middle School at 3601 Kohnen Way, for a report of two missing adults. The reporting party informed police that two individuals were providing janitorial services at the middle school and had not returned home after their shifts on December 22.
Police arrived at Fallon Middle School where they located a vehicle belonging to the missing individuals parked at the rear of the school. A subsequent search of the school resulted in locating a 32-year-old male and a 29-year-old female in the schools library, suffering from unknown medical issues.
As officers entered the library, they detected an unknown chemical smell. Both the male and female were carried out of the library by officers and into the open air of the courtyard.
The Alameda County Fire Department and Faulk Ambulance Services were summoned to the scene to treat the two individuals. The female was later transported to a local hospital for treatment, however, the male subject succumbed to his medical issues and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Due to the chemical smell, which was detected by officers, the Alameda County Fire Department’s Hazardous Material Support Unit (HAZMAT) was requested to determine if there were any hazardous chemical materials in the building or the school. After an extensive search of the school, no hazardous chemical or materials were located and the area was deemed safe for re-entry.
It was confirmed that the individuals found in the library were, in fact, the janitors who had been reported missing. At this time, Dublin Police said it is unknown what caused their medical issues or the death of the male subject.
Police did not release the identities of the individuals.
