Dozens of Mudslides Reported Along Marsh Creek Road

by ECT

Contra Costa County crews are working to clear nearly a dozen small mudslides that have impacted travel along Marsh Creek Road between Clayton and Brentwood.

Public works staff members are busy trying to clear the roadway, but drivers can expect at least 30 to 45 minute delays on that route, and are urged to use Highway 680 or Highway 4 alternate routes for the time being.  Along with the mud, there are also areas of minor flooding on Marsh Creek Road.

Given the lack of time between storms that would normally allow for the ground to better absorb the rain water, drivers can expect potentially more small slides in the coming 48 hours.  In addition, there continue to be areas with localized flooding.   Drivers are urged to use caution, and keep headlights on while driving during the rain.

Flooding in Contra Costa County can result from many different sources such as backed-up creeks that overflow, drainage inlets that become blocked, levees that break, and heavy rainfall that overwhelms our storm drains and creeks.

If you’re concerned about flooding at your home or business, it’s not too late to visit one of the free sandbag stations located throughout the county.  Please note that you’ll need to bring a shovel, but bags and sand are available for free.   Find out details regarding County sandbag sites at www.cccounty.us/sandbags.

County Public Works Maintenance road crews maintain the storm drain inlets through a program of annual inspection and cleaning.

To report a clogged catch basin or drainage inlet please call the Public Works Maintenance Division at 925-313-7000.
