Discovery Bay Woman Killed in Head-on Vehicle Crash on Vasco Road

by ECT

At approximately 3:04 am Saturday, the California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a head on collision between two vehicles on Vasco Road, just south Camino Diablo.

Upon CHP & emergency personnel arrival, a 2007 Acura SUV had crashed head on into a 2019 Nissan sedan. The solo female driver of the Nissan (44yrs old from Discovery Bay) was killed in the crash. The solo female driver of the Acura (34yrs old from East Palo Alto) sustained major injuries and was transported to John Muir hospital in Walnut Creek.

CHP says their preliminary investigation indicates the Acura SUV was traveling southbound on Vasco Road, just south of Camino Diablo, and the Nissan sedan was traveling northbound on Vasco Road. For unknown reasons at this time, the driver of Acura veered to the left and across the solid double yellow lines into the northbound lane, directly in the path of the Nissan traveling northbound, resulting in a head on crash.

Upon CHP and emergency personnel arrival, the solo female driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At this time it is unknown if alcohol or drug impairment were a factor in this collision but it is still under investigation. If anyone has information regarding this collision, call CHP in Martinez at 925-646-4980. Thank you.

So sad. Prayers going out to the family. Right before Christmas. Absolutely horrible.

That road needs dividers. Even just those plastic ones that are on the narrow bridge on Willow Pass. Haven’t heard of an accident there since they were installed.

Driving anywhere at 3:am is like playing Russian Roulette, on Vasco Rd. its playing with five bullets in six cylinders. Nothing good happens after midnight.

The lack of any safety divider on this road, traveled by thousands daily, would almost indicate gross negligence on the part of caltrans and the county supervisors. This has gone on long enough! Drop some coin and at least get some temporary k-rails out there. SMH, shame on the folks responsible for this road.

I have to agree! This road needs road dividers, how much more our we going to allow this to occur? Can we get a petition going?! This road is very similar to Hwy 12, I believe much more dangerous for all drivers, something needs to be done.

Vasco Road brings in over $ 16,000. Dollars in taxes Every Day! This is only the run between Livermore and Brentwood. Our County Supervisors continue to only patch up the substandard road and allow the trash to build while people loose their lives. This corridor should have been widened and modified a long time ago.
Where is all this tax money going? The Supervisors should be ashamed of themselves. A new office building for them and more deaths for us. Approve more houses and watch our Fire Dept continue to be understaffed and our roads to be substandard. It must be tough to be a county supervisor to ignore these life saving needs. Remember thAt at the ballot people.

Many years ago, when it was a two lane road, one lane in each direction, the section of Hwy 4 that runs along the Concord Weapons Station had a nickname. It was called “Blood Alley” because of all the terrible accidents. Maybe Vasco Road has now earned that nickname.
