If you want to walk amongst the giants, visit Discovery Bay Boulevard.  The streets are lined with banners, saluting military heroes who have lost their lives in military conflicts.

This salute is sponsored by “Some Gave All” – The Joey Graves Foundation. The purpose of the program is to celebrate the life of each and every fallen hero from Iraq and Afghanistan by creating a 3 x 9 foot banner that displays a favorite picture of them as chosen by their families, as well as personal information about them.  The banners will be on display through Veteran’s Day (Nov. 11).

Corporal Sean K.A. Langevin, US Army and Walnut Creek Resident, is one of the many fallen heroes who is recognized.  He died November 9, 2007 at age 23.  He is remembered as a son, brother, daddy and friend.  The words of his family memorialize his life and his ultimate sacrifice for freedom. “Sean’s infectious smile and love for life, adventure and fun will forever be etched in our hearts. His dedication to family, friends, God and country made him the man he became – our Hero.”

The Joey Graves Foundation was founded by Kevin Graves to honor his son, Specialist Joseph A. Graves.  Joseph Graves The Joey Graves Foundation has worked with Supervisor Mary Piepho’s office, PG&E, and the Town of Discovery Bay. Mike Tennyson and employees at Tennyson Electric of Livermore donated labor for this project to come to fruition.

Kevin Graves founded “Some Gave All” to honor his son, Specialist Joseph (Joey) A. Graves. Joey Graves was killed on July 25th 2006 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his convoy encountered enemy fire. The foundation’s primary mission is to support Gold Star Families by working with other Bay Area organizations to provide venues for healing and by providing opportunities for our fallen heroes to be honored. They also provide support for active duty and veteran’s programs.

Residents and families are encouraged to walk the boulevard of these magnificent heroes. Salute these giants who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

I see these and read them every day. I’m so grateful and sad at the same time. I’m glad my community supports this.
