by ECT

At approximately 2:50 pm Monday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a vegetation fire along State Route 4 near the Old River Bridge in the Town of Discovery Bay.

According to Battalion 5, he reported upon arrival that the fire was approximately 500 yards along the roadside which was approaching the bridge. He requested the California Highway Patrol for traffic control as there was limited to no viability due to smoke across the highway.

Firefighters were working to keep this away from the bridge.

UPDATE
By 3:39 pm, ECCFPD reported that forward progress has been stopped. CHP had also issued a SIGALERT that both directions of traffic were blocked.

UPDATE
According to the ECCFPD, the fire burned approximently 5.5 acres in total. The cause of the fire was “undetermined”.

Did they figured out how the fire got started or had an idea? Someone toss a lit cigarette into the dry vegetation? How about an arsonist? Lots of those around these days.
