DeSaulnier Named Chair of Education & Labor Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions

Washington, DC – Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-11) was named Chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor’s Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) for the 117^th Congress. Congressman DeSaulnier also serves on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, House Committee on Oversight and Reform, and House Rules Committee.

“It is an honor to serve as Chair of the HELP subcommittee to support the needs of America’s workers at such a critical moment in our nation’s history,” said Congressman DeSaulnier. “As our country continues to deal with and fight back from a global pandemic, workers are faced with an unprecedented set of challenges. I look forward to working with Chairman Scott, along with the other members of our subcommittee, to address these important issues.”

As a small business owner who operated restaurants for over 35 years, Congressman DeSaulnier has established a long record of working on labor issues and advocating for worker rights at the local, state, and federal levels. In addition to this chairmanship, Congressman DeSaulnier is one of only a few Members of Congress to sit on four committees. Prior to being elected to Congress, Congressman DeSaulnier was a member of both the Teamsters International Union and the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union.

The Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions is tasked with dealing with relationships between employers and employees, including but not limited to the National Labor Relations Act, the Labor-Management Relations Act, and the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act; the Bureau of Labor Statistics; and employment-related health and retirement security, including but not limited to pension, health, other employee benefits, and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
