Deck Fire Extends to Home in Discovery Bay, Firefighter Injured

At 4:59 pm Monday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a deck fire in the 4300 block of Monterey Ct. in the Town of Discovery Bay.

When Engine 59 arrived on scene at 5:08 pm, they reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the home and deemed it a working structure fire. The Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office was requested for crowd control.

As of 5:13 pm, they were checking for extensions into the attic of the home. A short time later they confirmed fire in both the attic and inside the home.

By 5:24 pm, BC5 pulled all resources from inside the home and the roof and was moving towards defensive fire attack for safety reasons.  They would make fire attack from the exterior of the home. Engine 52 later reported a roof collapse.

By 6:00 pm, crews attempted to make an interior fire attack, however, they were not able as exterior fire was still burning, meanwhile, it was reported a firefighter sustained a cut ot the arm and was being transported to a local hospital.

As of 6:45 pm, the fire was extinguished per BC5.

 

UPDATE
Per the District, 5 people were displaced. 1 Firefighter transported to local hospital along with two occupants of the home also transported as a precaution. Smoke and fire damage throughout the home causing $300k in damages. The cause of the fire is still under investigation along with Gas secured, electric meter pulled and illegal electrical tap cut.
