County Elections: Candidate Filing Period for November Election Underway

The November 6, 2018 General Election is now in full swing, as nomination papers are available for candidates interested in running for office. The nomination period runs through 5:00 pm Friday, August 10, 2018.

Papers for school and special district offices are available at the Contra Costa Elections Division, 555 Escobar Street, Martinez. Individuals looking to run for city offices must contact their local City Clerk’s office.

For a complete list of the state, county and local offices up for election in November, go to the department website www.cocovote.us.

“This is an important time for candidates to decide whether they want to proceed with a campaign,” said Joe Canciamilla, Contra Costa Registrar of Voters. “We look forward to having a good field of citizens, eager to serve their communities.”

If an incumbent elected official does not file to run for the same office by the August 10 deadline, there is a filing extension until 5:00 pm on Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

The Contra Costa Elections Division is offering appointments to interested candidates on weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Documents for those with appointments will be prepared ahead of their appointment time.  The process takes approximately 20 minutes. Walk-ins are always welcome. Someone please run against Joel Keller for Bart Board of Director. We do not need 4 more years of Keller representing East County.
