Richmond Shelter in Place Order Lifted, Hundreds of Cars Burned

A shelter in place order has been issued in Richmond near Gertrude Avenue and Richmond Parkway after a fire broke out at an automotive  junk yard.

The alert was issued at 8:26 am Friday, several minutes after the fire broke out.

The county is encouraging residents and businesses to please go inside, close all windows and doors, turn off all heaters, air conditioners and fans. If not using the fireplace, close fireplace dampers and vents, and cover cracks around doors and windows with tape or damp towels.

Updated emergency information can be found on media news networks and by going to www.cococws.us. Stay off the telephone unless you have a life threatening emergency. Shelter in place until further notice.

According to Contra Costa County Fire, 100’s of cars have been burned.

By 10:40 am, the county lifted the shelter in place order.
