On Friday, Contra Costa Health Services announced the county now has 307 cases and 5 deaths in Contra Costa County. The county also reports they have had 4,493 total people tested and currently 32 people are in the hospital.
The announcement comes on the same day they announced at least 27 people who live or work at a skilled nursing facility in Orinda have tested positive for COVID-19. No deaths from the facility have been reported.
According to Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis, she has asked the county to release heat maps and community locations such as cities, however, she was told that data is not available at this time.
Burgis then confirmed that the 307 cases are spread out across the county in all five supervisor districts.
“I understand the community wanting to know specific information about their own communities. The testing and reporting has not been good enough to give dependable information about the locations or where the virus is located but we are working on it,” explained Burgis. “At this point from what the health director is telling me what they know is that there is really no variation by city. I am told that the virus is moving unabated through our communities. We’re not dealing with clusters, it’s a full community spread. No city or neighborhood is more burdened than any other from the Delta to the Bay. When you adjust for population the per capita numbers are pretty even across the board. Testing is getting better. It’s still not where we want it to be. It is critically important that everyone follows the health order so we can flatten the curve.”
Burgis further highlighted that one way the county is tracking to see if the stay-at-home order is working is they are monitoring community mobility.
“The only proven way to fight this disease is isolation,” said Burgis who encourages the public to follow the stat-at-home directive.
She added that as more data becomes available, the county may be releasing more information on its dashboard so she encourages the public to not only be vigilant, but use patience and good judgement.

Hello ,
Wish to put a concern out to all ! The eastbay regional parks are still open with limited staff no restrooms or water and large crowds . Easter Sunday is coming how is this gonna flatten the curve . By giving an open space / park to go to I get its healthy but the numbers of people are not ! Easter Sunday will be a disaster at the parks . How do we as a community look at the parks and say yes it’s great to be open but your not helping the spread of Covid 19 ! This needs to be addressed soon . The numbers of the virus will go up in coco county more and thanks to the park dist for helping the spread .
“Not available” my ass. Contra costa officials are all liars. They are withholding vital information that we peasants need so we can attempt to not catch this virus. They are acting in a criminal manner. They all need to be voted out of their jobs next election. Their lack of providing location information will cost lives of innocent citizens. They all have blood on their hands and as such, every single contra costa county official is negligent, irresponsible, and should be held accountable for the blatant lies they are telling. Their decision to withhold location information is resulting in MURDER! They deserve to rot in hell!!
The park is doing a good job trying to Close the parks but keep open space open. People are being respectful and doing a good job social distancing. John doesnt need to insult to get his point across. Thank you to the park district. We need our trails desperately right now!
