Contra Costa County Lifts Countywide 8:00 pm Curfew

by ECT

On Thursday Contra Costa County lifted its 8:00 pm curfew that was put in place earlier in the week according to County Supervisors Karen Mitchoff and John Gioia.

Here is the order:

ORDER RESCINDING A COUNTYWIDE CURFEW WITHIN THE COUNTY OF CONTRA COSTA

During the past week, acts of violence and other criminal activity, looting, arson, injuries to individuals, including a shooting, and destruction of property, took place in Contra Costa County and throughout the Bay Area, including in the areas of Walnut Creek, Antioch, Richmond, and San Pablo. Due to these conditions of imminent danger to life and property, Contra Costa County and many of its cities, as well as other cities and counties throughout the Bay Area, imposed nighttime curfews to protect local businesses and residents.

As Contra Costa County’s Administrator of Emergency Services, I have reviewed, on a daily basis, the conditions that necessitated the June 2, 2020, Countywide curfew. At this point, it appears that the public order and safety has generally been restored in Contra Costa County and it is therefore appropriate to lift the emergency Countywide curfew.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED THAT:
Effective 1 :00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2020, the emergency Countywide curfew is rescinded. This action does not affect any city curfews that remain in effect. Cities will make their own determination as to whether curfews continue to be needed within their commercial districts or other areas within those cities.

On Tuesday, on the recommendation of the Contra Costa County Sheriff David Livingston, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors unanimously agreed to an 8:00 pm curfew which would last until 5:00 am the next morning.

The move was in response to civil unrest after law enforcement responded to local emergency in response to civil disturbances after peaceful protests in the county following George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.

Earlier today, effectively immediately, the Alameda County Sheriff rescinded the temporary emergency curfew order for the County. Please check with your local jurisdiction for curfew restrictions pertaining to individual cities in Alameda County.

Why rescinded? This is INSANE! Just watch! Looting will start immediately! Are these county supervisor totally crazy?

The reason we did not have lootings and destruction is BECAUSE we were under curfew. Aren’t these people aware of that? People were kept from getting on the freeways with trucks and SUVs in which they could transport their ill-gotten loot.

Now, I have to gather up my friends and “equipment” to go and protect my place of business. Another sleepless night to come.

I agree! I think it is a mistake!

This is disturbing, the reason looting stopped was because of the county-wide curfew, but the scumbags are just sitting and waiting for this.

They already broke the widows at Walgreens on Hillcrest. So much for lifting the curfew

The supervisors of this county are getting wishy washy. One day have a special meeting to enact a curfew. The next day rescind the curfew. No that’s leadership?
Wow some other entity is controlling their strings.
