CONCORD, CALIF. – Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire) announced the appointment of veteran firefighter Charles “Chuck” Stark to the position of Assistant Fire Chief – Emergency Operations Division effective December 1, 2018.

In one of the most important public safety roles in the District, Stark is responsible for all emergency operations of the District including oversight of some 300 firefighters and support staff.

“Our assistant chief of operations is among the most critical positions in the District, with responsibility for ensuring our life- and property-saving operations are carried out flawlessly, each and every time our firefighters leave their stations,” said Jeff Carman, Fire Chief, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. “I couldn’t be more pleased to announce the promotion of longtime Con Fire firefighter Chuck Stark to this position.”

“I am both excited and humbled to be selected for this important position and am well-aware of the trust the public places in our firefighters and their leadership,” said Charles Stark, Assistant Fire Chief – Emergency Operations Division. “I look forward to working with our leadership team and our firefighters to ensure our community continues to receive the best emergency services anywhere.”

Stark was originally appointed as Interim Emergency Operations Chief on July 1st of this year, and, in his short time in this capacity, clearly demonstrated his abilities and potential for this all-important senior leadership position.   Stark is a 15-year employee of the Fire District who promoted through the ranks since being hired as a firefighter/paramedic in July 2003.

In prior District assignments as Battalion Chief, he led Battalions 1 and 7 and successfully managed numerous District programs including Fire Trails and Heavy Equipment, Fire Nozzle Evaluation, Digital Staffing Tools, and the Wildland Fire Suppression program.
