City of Dublin Cancels St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Out Of Coronavirus Fears

by ECT

Dublin, CA – The City of Dublin has announced that its annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration, which includes a two-day festival, a 5K Shamrock Fun Run and Walk, St. Patrick’s Day parade, and pancake breakfast, will be cancelled this year due to the heightened health risk and growing concerns over the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

The call to cancel was made after tremendous thought and numerous consultations with the Alameda County Department of Health and the Alameda County Office of Emergency Services. The annual celebration has become a regional event that annually brings close to 80,000 people into our community.

In a Letter to the community, City Manager Linda Smith wrote, “It is our duty and obligation to protect our citizens, as well as the many visitors who would be coming into our City for events. Cancelling the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day Celebration is simply the prudent thing to do.”

The City says it looks forward to the 2021 celebration.
