CHP: Kirker Pass Minor Vehicle Accident Turns Deadly

by ECT

The California Highway Patrol announced that just after 7:00 pm, a 35 year old woman from San Bruno was struck and killed while standing within the roadway of northbound Kirker Pass Road near Hess Road.

The woman who was driving a Ford Fiesta had become involved in a minor fender bender. She and her right front passenger, a 36 year old man from San Francisco, had exited the vehicle and were exchanging information with the other party involved in the collision, a 34 year old woman from Antioch, who had been driving a Scion.

As the three stood near their vehicles a Toyota Prius, driven by a 24 year old woman from Antioch, collided with the back of the Scion, which lunged forward into the Ford.

The woman from San Bruno and the man from San Francisco, as they stood together, sustained major injuries as a result of this secondary collision.

Both were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Once at the hospital the woman died from her injuries.

This traffic collision is pending further investigation. Neither drugs or alcohol appear to be a factor in this incident.

The Kirker pass roadwork reducing 2 lanes into 1 lane suddenly is probably the reason for the accident. Both directions at the same time. Very dangerous. I drive it every night to get home. Won’t be going that way for a while now. Marsh Creek has road work also. Every route to East County from WC has some kind of barriers. Crazy. Be safe.
