Updated: CHP Investigating Thursday Night Freeway Shooting in Danville

Just after 10:00 pm Thursday, the California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a freeway shooting on northbound interstate 680 south of Diablo in Danville.

Upon arrival, one person was suffering from gunshot wounds. The condition of the person is unknown. A second person may have also been hit, but that is not confirmed.

Preliminary information is the shooting occurred somewhere between Crow Canyon and Sycamore Valley Road.

The incident shut down all lanes of the northbound freeway as CHP attempted to located evidence and shell casings. No suspect vehicle information has been provided.

CHP UPDATE (12:30 pm Friday)

DANVILLE, Calif. – On December 23, 2021, at approximately 10 p.m., California Highway Patrol (CHP) Dublin Area units responded to a call of a shooting on northbound I-680 near Crow Canyon Road.

 

A male driver and female passenger were traveling in a black Nissan Rogue northbound on I-680 when an unknown suspect vehicle pulled alongside the Nissan. An occupant of the suspect vehicle fired multiple rounds in the direction of the Nissan.

 

As a result, the Nissan, along with the driver, were struck by gunfire several times. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and remains outstanding. The driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital with suspected critical injuries. The female passenger was uninjured. Northbound I-680 was closed for approximately three hours to facilitate the investigation.

 

Detectives assigned to CHP – Golden Gate Division, Special Investigations Unit responded and are actively investigating this incident. Detectives are requesting assistance from the public in gathering information.
