CHP: DUI Driver Injures 1-Year-Old Child During Crash on I-680

The California Highway Patrol announced the arrest of a 58-year-old Martinez man in connection with a suspected DUI at 8:47 am Tuesday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, at about 8:47am, Contra Costa CHP units were advised of a solo vehicle collision off the roadway on I-680 northbound at the Hwy-4 transition ramp. Upon CHP and emergency personnel arrival, a solo Audi A6 had crashed into the concrete rail and sustained major damage, which contained the male driver and his 1-year-old daughter in her car seat. Good Samaritans stopped immediately at the scene and assisted the child out of the car. The child suffered cuts and lacerations but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Children’s Hospital in Oakland.

The driver was suspected of driving under the influence.

The driver, 58-year-old Lon Lucky, of Martinez, was transported with minor injuries to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek. While at the hospital, Lucky was arrested for FELONY DUI, including child endangerment causing injury to the 1-year-old girl. Once Lucky was released from the hospital, he was transported and booked into the Martinez detention facility for the following charges:

-23153(a)VC- FELONY DUI causing injuries
-273(a)(b)PC- CHILD ENDANGERMENT causing great bodily harm

CHP reminded drivers to never drive impaired.

If anyone runs in ol’ Mr. Lucky, please give the man a good kick in the rear. Tell tale sign…58 year old man with a 1 year old child. Someone PLEASE rescue that child
