An amazing video captured a gas explosion on Lexington Court in Brentwood yesterday afternoon as East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to an exterior fire which required 17-firefighter personnel on scene.

The fire begin at 5:15 pm Friday after owners of one of the homes discarded ashes from the BBQ into the green waste container which started the exterior fire between both homes.

Engine 54 was first on scene and once the fire was extinguished, crews worked to check both homes for a fire extension which none was found. Crews were on scene for roughly 2-hours.

The fire damaged two homes with a sprinkler system activated in one of the homes—appears one sprinkler head went off which limited water damage to a small area. Luckily, most of the damage occurred outside to the tune of just $11,000 comprising of a fence, shed, miscellaneous items. No one was hurt or injured in the fire.

The photos below are still shots taken from a video captured by James Lawrence who is credited with shooting the explosion. The video can be seen on our Facebook Fan Page and can show one man trying to put out the fire with a hose prior to fire crews arrive.  He was in for a surprise when the explosion occurred which flew an item high into the air.

Thanks you to all of our neighbors who helped get us and the neighboring house out! Could have been a lot worse.
