Brentwood: Vehicle Accident Results in 12-Acre Vegetation Fire

At 6:37 pm Wednesday, East Contra Costa Firefighters responded to a report of a solo vehicle crash off the roadway which resulted in the spread of a 12-acre vegetation fire.

Engine 52 arrived on scene on Briones Valley Road at Deer Valley to find a solo vehicle off the roadway on its side in a drainage ditch—the vehicle accident was non-injury according to AMR.

Firefighters arrived on scene and estimated at least 1-acre on fire and called for additional units to assist. Engines 93 (Oakley), 2-Calfire units, and 2 CONFIRE units were requested.

By 7:09, the fire hit 8-acres when additional units were able to assist in controlling the burn.

The units on scene started a progressive hose lay and conducted a fire attack and limited the fire to approximately 12 acres. The vehicle was destroyed in the incident.

A total of 25-firefighters were needed on the incident and CHP shut down Briones Valley Road between Marsh Creek Road and Balfour.

The accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

Update
At 4:48 am Thursday, firefighters returned to the scene after a report of smoke and flames. It was a small spot fire which one engine could handle.
