Shortly after 8:00 am Wednesday, Brentwood Police and the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to the 1100 block of Dainty Ave for a report of a suspicious package.

Upon arrival, police located a package and determined that the bomb squad was needed for further investigation. As of 11:00, police and the bomb squad were still on scene.

According to Sonia Cardinale of the Brentwood Police Department, units are still on scene and this is an ongoing investigation. No time table was provided on when the roads may be re-opened

Several residents stated that they were not evacuated, however, if they left their homes, they would not be allowed back in until after the incident clears. A neighboring preschool and elementary school were not evacuated and no shelter in place was ordered.

On February 4, 2015 at approximately 8:04 am, officers from the Brentwood Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Dainty Avenue on the report of a suspicious package.  Upon arrival officers located an item in the street and subsequently contacted the Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad for further examination.  Based on initial investigation, nearby residents were contacted and advised to shelter in place as a precaution.  Schools in the area were notified as a courtesy, but campus activities were not disrupted.

At approximately 12:20 pm the Walnut Creek Bomb Squad identified it as an improvised explosive device and rendered the item safe. The investigation is ongoing.
