Brentwood Readies Itself for Great Wolf Resort, Forms Ad-Hoc Committee

by ECT

On Tuesday, the Brentwood City Council formed an ad-hoc committee for the purposes of providing staff with oversight and guidance on issues associated with the potential Great Wolf Lodge project, including the preparation of a memorandum of understanding.

The move comes after an August 26 Press Release announcing the City of Brentwood announced that Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. located in Madison, Wisconsin has approached the City of Brentwood as they research this market area in hopes of locating one of their family oriented indoor water park resorts in Northern California.

The city said at that time they were not in formal negotiations, but that the parties are in discussion about the possibilities for a Great Wolf Lodge in Brentwood. On Tuesday, City Manager Gus Vina explained they were on the fast track and a decision could be made in the next 30-45 days.

The project is anticipated be located off Lone Tree Way and the Bypass behind Home Depot.

“Staff has been in preliminary hearings about Great Wolf in Brentwood. The purpose of this action should you move forward is to be ready in the event that great wolf would like to move forward with an MOU then the ad-hoc is already in place and we are not going to waste any time,” said Vina. “I wanted to make sure we had this ready to go.”

Vina explained Great Wolf had their Board Meeting on the September 9 and said they had a good positive meeting and that they believe moving forward with exclusive rights to negotiate with the City Brentwood is the right direction.

“There is definite energy and interest in working with all of you on a location in Brentwood. They are not going to officially come out say we are it, they are going to keep their options open but it makes sense to have an ad-hoc ready to go so we can move quickly through an MOU” said Vina.

The ad-hoc committee would be to guide staff through the MOU. If there were additional steps beyond the MOU, it would come back to the council. The purpose of the MOU is to identify deliverables for both Great Wolf and the city of Brentwood—it could last about a year.

The council appointed Joel Bryant and Steve Barr to the ad-hoc committee.

Sounds like a terrible place to put it, right on the border with Antioch at one of the busiest intersections that neither Antioch nor Brentwood patrol. How about near the “Streets of Brentwwod” or downtown to give the businesses so paying customers.

This looks like an ideal location on paper…until you look at the disaster that is traffic on the Lone Tree corridor between Empire and Deer Valley. If they want to reconfigure the Hwy 4 interchange to move it off of Lone Tree it might make sense.

yay!! More traffic and riff raff….I thought we were trying to get a handle on the mess we already have, not invite more..

“Riff raff”?? This place caters to families and children. I’ve gone several times to the WA location. The only riff raff are the squealing kids and they try to get guests to spend the entire time in the resort (and spend money) so there’s not much overflow into the surrounding community.

This is an advertisement play for the Wolf Lodge Resort. We are being swindled! And were is Brentwood going to find the millions of gallons of water required to operate such a resort? What will happen to the reputation of Brentwood in their fight against drought?

This is a dud. Brentwood should be bringing professional jobs to the area not minimum wage jobs for people that can’t afford to live here. Ridiculous. Plus this is a water park for only those people staying there? Stupid stupid stupid.
