How many muggers in total were there?

Val Apr 18, 2014 - 1:02 pm

So freakin horrible. I hope they are caught before a victim is hurt or killed.

Jan Apr 18, 2014 - 1:05 pm

What is this community coming to? I really would be scared to live anywhere in East County now. Hope Brentwood catches them

Leslie Apr 18, 2014 - 1:20 pm

wonder if same perps from a month or so ago at the streets… seems like the same MO and physical description

Reginald Jamal Brown Apr 18, 2014 - 3:14 pm

Look out Brentwood, you’re nextdoor to the most dangerous city in Contra Costa County! There are no invisible walls from stopping the bad guys from crossing over to your side.

Felipe Apr 18, 2014 - 3:44 pm

What I didn’t know Brentwood was right next to Pittsburg lol (sarcastic voice)

slw Apr 18, 2014 - 6:06 pm

You must be referring to Antioch because Pittsburg is pretty tame compare to the OCH and especially in the last couple of weeks where crime has been crazy

slw Apr 18, 2014 - 6:07 pm

RJB you crack me up. I wouldn’t be surprise if the scumbags that did this were from Antioch, Richmond or Oaktown

Julie Apr 19, 2014 - 11:16 am

Just a matter of time. Antioch is wrecked and soon brentwood will be the same. Even the bus brings them to “streets of Brentwood”. We are sitting ducks

Dale Apr 18, 2014 - 4:40 pm

That explains why so many stores are closing from shoplifting…….and lack of sales. Does not help to have HUD Housing Project across the street.

Dale Apr 18, 2014 - 4:45 pm

What happened to the Police Sub Station there? Maybe the new owners will add more security?

This is going to end up like County East Mall in Antioch…….too bad I really liked The Streets..

Shauna Rowland Apr 18, 2014 - 4:51 pm

Way too close to home!! Scary! Hope they catch them.

Chuck Apr 18, 2014 - 5:55 pm

We need that jewelry store owner to lend a hand to Brentwood and take these scum bags out.
Go BPD and catch these scumbags before someone innocent gets hurt.

Sarah Blakley Apr 18, 2014 - 6:02 pm

One of the victims is my 14 year old son. May God have mercy on their souls if they have one.

Jose Viveros Apr 19, 2014 - 11:18 am

I was a victim to! we were the 4th case! Damn bastards took everything! Hope your son is alright! Im still trying to cope but its so hard getting that image out of my head!

slw Apr 18, 2014 - 6:11 pm

Chuck I have no mercy for scumbags. Sarah I’m so sorry and glad your son was not hurt. What did they want from a 14 yr old? Let me guess, phone and maybe IPOD? It’s two bad that someone wasn’t carrying and removed these scums from society. They have no regard for anything anymore. It’s sad

Amber Apr 18, 2014 - 8:39 pm

Sounds good!

Sarah Apr 18, 2014 - 7:02 pm

Chuck they held the gun to his throat and padded him down. They took his iPhone.

Donna Mendez Apr 19, 2014 - 7:24 am

That just seems cruel to scare a young boy like that. Pointing a gun at someone is bad enough, but to hold a gun to the neck is cruel. Hope your son will be okay and be able to over come the trauma.

Reginald Jamal Brown Apr 18, 2014 - 7:16 pm

Open your eyes Brentwood. Everyday I shop at your stores and everyday I see more and more of the same common denominator that destroyed Antioch.

Maris Bennett Apr 19, 2014 - 6:53 am

Gettiing more than fed up with these occurrences. Parents, do your job! Know who your kids hang out with. Teach them to aspire to be something other than a thug! Be a role model. Keep them in school. I could go on…

Righteous in the 'Wood Apr 19, 2014 - 12:58 pm

Maris, I’m guessing you are speaking directly to parents of thug criminals, right? If so, I have news for you, they don’t read the news presented here nor anywhare else, if they can read at all. Want solutions? Take what does it really matter says below to heart. One sure way for thugs to think twice is to know that they are on a level playing field.

does it really matter Apr 19, 2014 - 7:42 am

and the state of california has just altered the CCW laws. Get some proper training and protection. End the violence through education and awareness.

Reginald Jamal Brown Apr 19, 2014 - 4:14 pm

Yes they have been changed to allow law abiding citizens to CCW permits accepting that “self defense” is a valid enough reason to make it a “will issue” state instead of “may issue”. However, it has been appealed to the higher courts by anti-gun politicians so currently the change has been put on hold.

Pray that the judges change California into a “will issue”.

I’ll be one of the first in line to apply for a permit. Let’s see how criminals fair then.

0321jarhead Apr 20, 2014 - 10:00 am

Now, if our Sherriff and local Chief of Police(s) here in Contra Costa County would only ahere to the new altered CCW laws we may be a little bit safer from these low lifes. These so low lifes will not be sure of who may be armed.

Righteous in the 'Wood Apr 20, 2014 - 4:52 pm

The law has not been altered yet. There is no law. It is an arbitrary judgement by local county Sheriffs. The challenge was to the denial to a citizen in San Diego County by that local sheriff from the denial based off of the good cause statement (sheriff stated “self defense” not good cause, thus violating civil rights). The really interesting aspect of this is that it was the 9th CCoAs that overturned the ruling and ordered the judgment overturned.

The law for CCW permits stands as originally written. How it is administered is what is being contested.

Andrew Apr 19, 2014 - 8:08 am

Brentwood is next on the city shit list unless the entire county works together to raise home values.

Woody Forrest Apr 19, 2014 - 10:30 am

Cops are minutes away when seconds count. More Concealed Carry Permits would make thugs think twice.

Jose Viveros Apr 19, 2014 - 11:35 am

My best friend and I were victims as well. It was horrible. They had the gun to her forhead. And then they went after me and pointed the gun to my head as well. I tried to put up a fight but of course there weak and had to spray me with pepper spray. I know I shouldn’t have but when you see the look on your best friend and she’s TERRIFIED I acted on instinct. They took everything we had wich is fine because those are material things and they can be replaced but I cant get that damn image of the robber holding a gun to my forhead and waiving it up and down. People are SICK. THIS TO SHALL PASS I hope :/

ed s Apr 19, 2014 - 1:30 pm

I left east county in 2005 and never thought the east end would turn out like this.Brentwood was the place to “escape” that stuff…In Az where I am now, crooks are blasted every day as the carry laws here favor the law abiding citizen.

Beware the Politician District attorneys may turn on you if you defend yourself, unless you know what is needed to “defend your life when you are fearing for your own life”….

Terri Apr 21, 2014 - 11:18 am

That’s the problem. They are taking away our rights and making it look like it’s a good thing at the same time these people are out there doing crimes knowing that we can not protect ourselves and if we do we will be the person charged with a crime!

Chuck Apr 19, 2014 - 4:21 pm

Keep your eyes peeled people. Be aware of everything around you. Scumbags robbing kids for petty things. How stupid to risk a persons life for a cell phone. What next ? It is like one person commented they probably can’t even read. How did this all go to hell so fast around here? I wish the victims a fast recovery. If they catch the suspects the courts need to put them away for a long time and not just a slap on the wrist.

V Apr 19, 2014 - 9:51 pm

If you think things are bad now, wait until BART is running. It’s a portal for crime to East County.

J Woltering Apr 20, 2014 - 7:03 am

Horrible news; we just moved to bwood last year to avoid this stuff… Apparently we didn’t research well enough!!! Makes one considering moving. Hopefully the add’l BPD hires will help keep in front of these trends- but maybe too late.

George Dubya Apr 21, 2014 - 10:37 am

I’m shocked, SHOCKED, that the perps are black. So hard to believe!!

Terri Apr 21, 2014 - 11:15 am

I think we should be able to exercise the Second Amendment, all should be able to carry concealed without having a permit & all business owners should have some type of protection if the person/business owner desires. We have people out there and using whatever type weapon they desire to do these crimes. I feel that if more people carried a concealed weapon these criminals would not know who was carrying and who wasn’t and less crime would take place, it would definitely make the person thank twice before doing a crime. The criminals know that the ordinary citizens are not allowed to carry so that makes them more prone to these attacks!

Barbara Apr 21, 2014 - 3:49 pm

Just a reply to a few of the comments: there are no “parents”. Maybe there is a single mom who had this guy at 14 or 15; what is happening is not sad v- it is outrageous. People need to watch around them. And finally, there is no Oaktown. There is Oakland – in which we got out of because of this crap that is going on. It doesn’t take much to ruin an area. These are probably the same thugs that stormed AMC Deercreek last week. Treat them as adults and try them as adults.

Lou Brown Apr 21, 2014 - 5:59 pm
