Brentwood Police Arrest Hit-And-Run Driver Who Attempts to Flee Crash Scene

At 1:50 pm Friday, the Brentwood Police Department responded to a report of a multi-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Fairview Avenue and San Jose Ave in the city of Brentwood.

According to Brentwood Police Lieutenant Mike Thompson, the driver was coming southbound on Fairview where he ran a red-light and t-boned a truck that was turning westbound on San Jose which flipped the truck on its side causing minor injuries to the driver.

All parties involved sustained minor injuries and released on scene after being treated by AMR and East Contra Costa Fire Protection District firefighters.

Thompson said that the driver that cause the crash exited his vehicle and officers sat the driver on the curb. Once officers went to assist other vehicles, that is when the driver got up and attempted to flee the scene. He was caught in a nearby neighborhood where he was taken into custody without incident.

Thompson said the man was taken into custody, however, they were still determining for misdemeanor or felony hit and run. The driver was in his early 20’s and his identification was not released. Police did say had no felony warrants and alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash. The driver was also licensed and insured. None of the vehicles involved were stolen.

Police said the driver has given then no reason as to why he attempted to flee the scene.
