Brentwood PD: Subject Sought in BB Gun Assault at Liberty High School

by ECT

On May 6, 2015 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Brentwood PD officers responded to the Liberty High School campus on the report of a student who had been shot with a BB gun.

The incident occurred shortly after school had ended, and while students were exiting their classrooms and leaving campus for the day. The School Resource Officer and other nearby officers arrived on-scene within minutes, along with School District Administrators, and immediately began searching for the suspect who had fled the campus on foot.

Neighborhood searches were conducted, but the suspect was not located.

Investigation revealed that a male student was walking through the quad area of the school, when an unidentified Hispanic Male subject ran up to him from behind and discharged approximately 6-8 shots. This student was struck three times by BB’s, and although it appears he was the intended target, two other female students walking nearby were also hit by BB’s. All three victims were treated at John Muir Medical Center for puncture wounds, and later released.

The suspect, described as a “tall and skinny” unknown age Hispanic Male, was last seen running northbound through the school wearing a black beanie with a purple bandana covering his face.

The intentional discharge of a BB gun at another person constitutes the crime of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a felony offense with serious consequences. This case is currently under investigation, and police personnel are working with school authorities to pursue all leads in an attempt to identify the suspect.

There will be an increased police presence on campus, and anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact a school administrator, an officer on campus, or the Brentwood Police Department at (925)634-6911.
