Brentwood: Man Cleaning Floor With Fire Catches Barn on Fire

by ECT

At 12:21 pm Thursday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection responded to a report of a commercial structure fire in the 6200 block of Brentwood Blvd. in the City of Brentwood.

It was reported by several callers that black smoke was coming from the building.

According to fire marshal Steve Aubert, a man was attempting to clean the barn out and tried to use fire as a catalyst to aid in the removal of products he was trying to clean the floor.

The man was attempting to burn off paint and plastics. Once it caught fire, the man extinguished the fire prior to firefighters arriving on scene.

Aubert reminds the public that is not okay to use an open flame in a commercial setting without a proper permit and to apply for a permit, the public can contact the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District.
