Brentwood Man Arrested in Connection to Church Vandalism

by ECT

On Friday, the Brentwood Police Department announced the arrest of Shawn Kelsey in connection with acts of vandalism with enhancements for committing hate crimes and civil rights violations.

According to police, they collaborated with nearby Bay Area law enforcement agencies and say that officers took a report of vandalism in mid-October at a local church where graffiti had been spray painted on the church property.

During the investigation, it was found that earlier this year, other Brentwood churches/ church properties had also been the victim of this type of crime with a similar method of operation.

Brentwood Police say that while working with the FBI and researching similar crimes in Contra Costa County, they were able to connect Shawn Kelsey, 43 of Brentwood, to 10 separate crimes of vandalism at churches.

Detectives secured a warrant for Kelsey and on Nov. 13 arrested Kelsey without incident. He is currently being held at county jail on a total of thirty charges, with a bail amount set at $525,000.
