At 6:37 pm Sunday, an adult female bicyclist was struck and killed in Brentwood by a passing motorist on Balfour Road just east of Sellers.

Brentwood Police were first on scene who described the bicyclist with major injuries and immediately requested a medical helicopter. A short time later, CPR was started, however, the medical helicopter and all responded units were cancelled. By 6:49, the County Coroner was requested.

According to the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, the accident cause may be DUI related.

The road was shut down in both directions as police and CHP investigated the incident. The roadway re-opened around 9:00 pm.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims family. Another senseless driver takes an innocent life. I hope he is given the maximum sentence.

So sad. Looks like he may have had a nice plea deal from the last drunken incident. Or driving without a license.

Even without the alcohol, this is not a good situation:
Time of day + road conditions; 6:40 pm riding westbound (sun in eyes), on Balfour east of Sellers (6″ wide bike lane).

This road should have been upgraded like Marsh Creek before all of the additional Discovery Bay homes were built.

But no, lets spend millions widening the road and building a new bridge at Orwood so trailers can cross over to go to a marina that has no launch facilities.

Bob, did you know each discovery bay west home built had to pay an extra road mitigation of $ 7,000 each? So now ask your supervisor where that money went.

JS,

Where are you getting your comments from? From what I have seen, each of your posts has been full of incorrect and incomplete information…Always in an effort to assign blame. It’s novel that you came up with a specific amount but left off any pertinent information. Coincidence? I think not.

Contrary to your incorrect insinuations:

1. All homes built in east county are assessed many fees, including road (public works) fees. This is not limited to discovery bay or discovery bay west. These fees are not “extra”, they are development fees and are standard in the regional development in every county and city.

2. I’m sure the supervisors would be happy to explain where the money goes, which is to all east county roads-not specific ones. City streets such as Balfour are the city’s responsibility within city limits. I’m thinking you have no idea how much roads cost to improve or maintain?

3. You would have to go back at least three or four supervisors (Torlakson, Canciamilla, Glover, Gerber, Greenberg) since discovery bay west was approved over 2 decades ago. The current supervisor (Piepho) had nothing to do with that development and there has been no real development within the unincorporated county in the last 10 years. Cities yes, county no.

4. Marsh creek was upgraded because it is under the control of the State of California as part of the Highway 4 bypass project.

None of this has anything to do with this unfortunate accident. The cities and county cannot be responsible for accidents or drunk drivers.

Please consider changing your screen name from JS to BS. At least that would be closer to the truth.
