by ECT

At 7:38 pm Sunday, East Contra Costa Fire Protection District Firefighters responded to a rollover vehicle accident in Brentwood that left a 17-year-old injured.

The accident occurred at Balfour Road and Minnesota where crews arrived to find a vehicle into a tree and the male patient requiring extrication from the vehicle.

The accident caused Balfour to be shut down in both directions for scene safety as firefighters worked to free the patient from the vehicle and provide patient care. The patient was freed from the vehicle and was transported by ground to Highland Hospital in Oakland—John Muir could not take the patient.

Engine 52 firefighter assisted AMR en route to Oakland to assist with patient care. A medical helicopter was requested, however, due to weather, they were not flying.

According to the Fire District, the vehicle sustained heavy damage after striking the tree. It was also reported that another vehicle pulled out in front of the crashed vehicle causing it to swerve and lose control. As a result, the vehicle struck a tree in the center median.

Brentwood Police are currently investigating the crash.

Note: Several good Samaritans were on scene trying to assist the 17-year-old prior to police, fire and AMR arrived on scene.
