Antioch: Two Women Critically Injured in James Donlon Vehicle Crash

At 7:28pm Sunday, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to a vehicle accident in Antioch that left two female patients critically injured.

The accident occurred at James Donlon Blvd. and Blythe Dr. in front of the Antioch Community Park. Antioch police officers arrived on scene to report a party trapped with their legs crushed from the crash.

The incident forced police to shut down traffic in both directions as fire crews worked the scene and to free the trapped females. In total, James Donlon was shut down for just under 3-hours.

According to radio traffic, Firefighters arrived on scene by 7:33 pm where they noted two vehicles with major damage with two critical patients and requested additional fire and ambulance support.

According to Lt. Morefield of the Antioch Police Department, both critically injured females patients were 19 and 21 years old.  This morning, they are listed in critical condition.

“Wet conditions and speed were a factor,” stated Lt. Morefield. “The vehicle lost control due to speed and crossed over the center lane and was broadsided by another vehicle.”

The woman were traveling eastbound on James Donlon in a small vehicle when they lost control and the car went over the center line (median) and was hit by an SUV traveling westbound.

In total, there were four patients. The two females from the small vehicle were in critical condition while the two in the SUV were transported to the hospital as a precaution.
