Senator Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) honored Beverly Lane as the Seventh Senate District Woman of the Year at a reception in Danville Friday night.

Beverly Lane is a Director of the East Bay Regional Park District and has an extensive record of public service and community activism in the East Bay.

“I am proud to honor Beverly as Seventh Senate District Woman of the Year for her many years of leadership in Danville and throughout the East Bay,” Senator DeSaulnier said. “Her public service has been rooted in environmental activism—she got her start walking door-to-door to support the creation of the California Coastal Commission. She has been an ardent advocate for expanding parks and preserving local history. Beverly has been key in making the San Ramon Valley such a vibrant community.”

Lane served on the first Danville Town Council from 1982 to 1993, was mayor three times, chaired the Central Contra Costa Transit Authority in 1988 and was president of California Elected Women in 1992-93. Lane was elected to the East Bay Regional Park District Board of Directors in 1994. The Park District covers San Francisco East Bay’s Alameda and Contra Costa counties, and manages 65 parks spanning 114,000 acres.

As a Regional Park Director she has focused on expanding and promoting regional parks and trails in the East Bay. She has led efforts to establish the Iron Horse Regional Trail, the Calaveras Ridge Trail and Sycamore Valley Open Space. This year she is encouraging families to walk for health and promoting the message Healthy Parks, Healthy People.

Lane has also taken on the role of local historian. She is a published author, columnist, and curator of the Museum of the San Ramon Valley. She has been President of the Museum of the San Ramon Valley, the Contra Costa County Historical Society, and the Eugene O’Neill Foundation, Tao House.
