by ECT

At 6:50 pm Saturday, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a vegetation fire at Gateway Road and North Stone Road on Bethel Island.

While responding, it was reporting that a structure was involved. Crews arrived on scene to the vegetation fire in which an abandoned restaurant, Franks Cove Restaurant and Bar, was involved in an exterior fire that quickly entered into the building. Engine 53 (Oakley) was the only unit on scene at this time and began a defensive fire attack to protect a second building approximately 10-feet away.

As crews arrived on scene, they were able to limit the fire to the restaurant and protect the neighboring two structures from damage, including a vegetation fire that wrapped around the structures.

The estimated loss in the incident was $320,000 and no injuries were reported and the cause of the incident is under investigation according to Battalion Chief Craig Auzenne.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District provided aid on the this incident while the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office provided traffic control.
