BART to Run Until 3 AM for New Year’s Eve

by ECT

BART will operate until about 3 am on January 1st with a special schedule that includes extra “event” trains following the New Year’s Eve fireworks show. The special schedule begins at 8 pm, when certain trains into and out of San Francisco will skip certain stops at the three busiest New Year’s Eve stations to minimize platform crowding. Information about the skip stops is below.

Here’s a pro tip: customers are encouraged to make sure their Clipper cards have enough value for an evening out or to purchase round-trip tickets in advance. First-time or infrequent riders often form long lines at the ticket vending machines. It’s worth noting that BART does not offer free rides on New Year’s Eve because two thirds of our operating funds come from ticket sales.

BART’s new Trip Planner and the official BART App have been updated to reflect the special schedule.  Also, our real time departures feature online and on the app is handy for seeing when the next train will arrive, including those extra event trains.

Another handy App is BART Watch, which allows riders to quickly and discreetly report criminal or suspicious activity directly to BART Police.

After operating until 3 am, BART will resume service at 8 am on January 1st, operating on a Holiday/Sunday schedule.
