Assemblymember Grayson Issues Statement on Governor Brown’s 2018-2019 State Budget Proposal

by ECT

(SACRAMENTO) – Following Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr.’s 2018-2019 state budget proposal, Assemblymember Timothy S. Grayson (D-Concord) released the following statement:

“Today the Governor announced his proposed budget and reaffirmed his commitment to continue to improve the state’s fiscal position, as has been the case year after year under his leadership. I look forward to reviewing his proposal in detail over the coming days, but there is something that we can already by certain of: any surplus must be invested into California’s future. Whether that investment manifests as paying down pension obligations, continuing to combat the housing crisis or saving more in the rainy day fund, it is crucial that we use this opportunity to help solidify our state’s financially solvent future.”

Referencing the Congressional GOP Tax Reform that was signed into law this past December, Grayson continued, “In contrast to recent legislation in Washington D.C. aimed at hurting California and benefiting the wealthy, this budget will work towards the betterment of all our citizens regardless of race, gender, class or creed, and this should be seen as a model for our national leadership. Over the coming months I look forward to working with the Governor and my colleagues in the Legislature to ensure our state continues to lead the nation and reflects the values cherished by all Californians.”
