Assemblymember Frazier Issues Statement on the UC Proposal to Increase Tuition

Assemblyman Jim Frazier issued the following statement regarding a proposed tuition and student fee increases at the University of California (UC) of up to 5% annually for both undergraduate and graduate students.

The plan will raise tuition by at least 5 percent per year for five years, with a chance for the state to reduce or eliminate the increase through additional funding. This would be the first time tuition is raised in three-years.

“I am troubled by the recent proposal of the University of California Board of Regents to raise tuition on Californian students and families. I stand with our students and Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins to find a better way to fund our UC system than putting the burden on the backs of students. This is an opportunity where we can work together to ensure that we continue to provide an affordable world-class education.”
