Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D – Oakley) released the following statement after Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. released his 2017-18 budget proposal:
“I commend Governor Brown for presenting another balanced budget. The Governor continues to highlight the critical need to find a long-term, comprehensive funding solution for California’s transportation system.
“California’s road condition is rapidly deteriorating with an estimated funding shortfall of $59 billion for state highways and $73 billion for local roads. If we fail to make a significant investment in our local roads, it is expected that nearly one-fourth will be in ‘failed’ condition by 2026.
“I am optimistic about working with the Governor and my colleagues this year to build consensus for a plan to keep California moving in the right direction.”
Assemblymember Frazier represents the 11th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Antioch, Bethel Island, Birds Landing, Brentwood, Byron, Collinsville, Discovery Bay, Fairfield, Isleton, Knightsen, Locke, Oakley, Pittsburg (partial), Rio Vista, Suisun City, Travis AFB, Vacaville and Walnut Grove.

Strengthening Transportation Infrastructure
Annual maintenance and repairs of California’s highways, roads and bridges are billions of dollars more than can be funded annually within existing revenues. The budget reflects the Governor’s transportation package, first proposed in September 2015, which would provide $4.2 billion annually to improve the maintenance of highways and local roads, expand public transit and strengthen critical trade routes.
