Asm. Susan Bonilla Won’t Run for Supervisor Mary Piepho’s Seat

by ECT

Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla, who will term out of her Assembly Seat later this year, made rumblings last week after she reportedly had eyes for a Contra Costa County Board of Supervisor seat.

According to sources, Bonilla was taking a hard look at potentially making a run for the District 3 seat currently held by Supervisor Mary Piepho. Piepho announced she is retiring at the end of her term.

Bonilla had previous served on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors from 2006 to 2010. She was also on the Concord City Council.

Within the last few weeks, Bonilla was reportedly out looking at homes in the Brentwood area so that if she ran, she would live within the district boundaries if elected.

Bonilla, who did not confirm or deny looking at homes in an email Friday stated she is not running for the seat.

Monica WilsonThe news of Bonillia potentially entering the race has prevented Antioch City Councilwoman Monica Wilson from a formal announcement after she was recruited heavily to run for the seat pitting her against her mayor. While it appears Wilson will eventually announce, no formal announcement had been made as of Friday evening.

As of Friday, democrat candidates who have formally announced a run for County Supervisor include: Antioch Mayor Wade Harper, East Bay Regional Park District Director Diane Burgis, and East County NAACP president Odessa Lefrancois. The lone republican in the race is Oakley Councilman Doug Hardcastle.

I would not support her if she moved out here just to get a job. What has she done for East Contra Costa while she was in the assembly or even previously on the Board of Supervisors. People should have to live in a distirct for a year or two prior to running for a seat. I dont like any of the candidates and anyone currently elected in Antioch will not get my vote.

I’m with you. None of the announced candidates are worth voting for. Burgis is probably the least objectionable, but based on what she’s done so far, the next shiny job that comes up in 2 years will be where she goes. I think we voters need to think longer term than that.

Bonilla figured out that it wasn’t an automatic win for her and wasn’t willing to take the chance. She got creamed by Glazer, she can’t afford another ass whoopin if she wants to stay in politics. Never heard of Wilson, googled her and all I found were ribbon cuttings and her pretty much following Wade Harper around with his agenda. Not impressed, why would she run against Harper, and who is recruiting her?

Harper, Odessa, and Wilson are going to split that vote, lol and Burgis will win in a landslide. The rest of them should save their money, Hardcastle.

Diane Burgis is positively the best (most qualified) candidate. She holds a regional seat and mixes with people in regional, countywide politics. The rest of them from Hardcastle to Harper, Odessa and Wilson are just trying to be on a ballot. None of them have a snowballs chance in hell of getting elected, It will be interesting to see if any of them actually file papers. No one likes to lose.

If you haven’t noticed, Oakley and Antioch are not fond of their city council members.

Bonillia or “Heavy B” as she is known is just looking for a job. Having just suffered a huge loss to Glazier she is looking for something she doesn’t have to work to hard for. Her political career is over, she just hasn’t realized it yet. Maybe she can go back to teaching.

None of the candidates have a track record worthy of showcasing or saying they are better than another because none of them have done anything significant. You are right when you say Antioch & Oakley do not have many fans of their councils.
